Music Theory

Showing Grade 1

The study of music theory could provide a suitably interested student a lifetime of learning and fascination. This is not really what the One-2-Five music theory E-tutor is about. This unique downloadable e-tutor and online manual is for the student who would rather be a musician than a music theorist and that the particularly tedious route to GRADE 5 THEORY is one of the less attractive hurdles to climb, because most musicians prefer to PLAY their instrument rather than write dots on a stave. Have said that, many musicians come to regret their lack of theoretical knowledge and music theory writing skills when called upon to arrange or compose, especially when finding themselves in a group or ensemble environment.

Grade 5 theory

Showing Grade 5This is the magic target for performance musicians wishing to go above grade 5 level in their performance exams because most exam boards make this a qualifying requirement for grades 6, 7 and 8 (practical exams). Grade 5 theory covers most of the rudiments of music, including most of the symbols and terms in common use (English, French, Italian and German) basic harmony, intervals, chords, cadences and music form. So if you achieve this level then you are well equipped to go on and perform music knowing you have good basic level of theoretical support.

Music lessons

The best way to learn music is by one-to-one music lessons with a good teacher and no computer courses or methods will ever replace this centuries old tradition which works for the vast majority of people. Private music teachers are probably our best customers because they know how modern children love to use their computers for homework and they can use the One-2-Five tutor in many ways to assign interesting challenges to their pupils without straying from their particular grade, and they love the quizzes, flashcards and aural challenges. If you are learning without the aid of formal music lessons or school, then the One-2-Five E-tutor will become a valuable acquisition.

The program

This program is effectively THIS ENTIRE WEBSITE on your computer and will prepare you for most music theory grade examinations in the U.K. and many other countries with similar curriculum up to Grade 5. It is designed to cover the minimum of requirements  and to be reasonably comprehensible to children and adults who have at least started learning a musical instrument. It is not meant to replace paper and pen methods but this type of learning does have the advantage of live 'sound' and fast links to the entire program. Because of this we are including Aural (ear) tests throughout the program. Having said this, please do not neglect using pen and paper. Links are given to sites where more specialized information is available and if you are a complete beginner then study the first section The Prep-Level and then follow the links as you progress through the levels. If you are sitting external exams with a UK based exam board then look for the logos for a more specifically targeted syllabus

Thankyou!

Buying a password:-

We hope you like the free website and enjoy learning more and more about the magical world of music and if you are a private music teacher then no doubt you will benefit greatly from this added dimension as children today are well used to tackling homework and assignments online and on their PC.

We designed the website originally for our own (private) pupils but realized that this resource could be of use by anyone involved in music education whether school, academy, college or private educator. This entire website is contained within the downloadable program which can be used offline in its own stand-alone browser.

The small fee for your password to open the entire course will help us to keep the project going and to further develop and update the technical side of things so please buy the password for the One-2-Five e-tutor as these contributions help to keep this site going, and keeps us motivated to improve things (we have plenty of ideas but may need to employ some added expertise in order to bring them to fruition).

By the way, if you have already done so, thank you for purchasing the E-book password!
